Triple Outlanes

Triple outlanes are lower playfields laid out with three Outlanes together, one more than the Dual Outlanes of the same period.

Like the paired layout, they come from the decades before the flipper return lane, when the ground outside the flippers was drain and a designer could divide it as finely as the scoring wanted. Gottlieb used the arrangement on machines between 1959 and 1966, and Midway, Automaticos and Alben each built one. Target Gallery (1962, Midway) makes the lanes the punishment for a bad shot: batting an errant ball into one of the machine’s Horseshoe Lanes delivers it straight to them.^[1]
