- Triple outlanes are lower playfields laid out with three [[gameplay-feature:outlanes]] together, one more than the [[gameplay-feature:dual-outlanes]] of the same period.
Like the paired layout, they come from the decades before the flipper return lane, when the ground outside the flippers was drain and a designer could divide it as finely as the scoring wanted. [[manufacturer:gottlieb]] used the arrangement on machines between 1959 and 1966, and [[manufacturer:midway]], [[manufacturer:automaticos]] and [[manufacturer:alben]] each built one. *[[title:target-gallery]]* (1962, Midway) makes the lanes the punishment for a bad shot: batting an errant ball into one of the machine's [[gameplay-feature:horseshoe-lanes]] delivers it straight to them.[1]
