Tower Bumpers

A type of Passive Bumpers consisting of a round cylindrical plastic housing that contains a rebound switch, encircled by a rubber ring. The ball strikes the rubber ring and bounces away while the internal switch registers the hit and awards points — but unlike Pop Bumpers, no solenoid fires to kick the ball. Chicago Coin introduced the tower bumper on Sally (1948), and the design became one of the more distinctive passive bumper variants of the late 1940s and 1950s. The tall, cylindrical profile gave the mechanism its name and made it a visible landmark on the playfield.
