Mushroom Bumpers
A type of Passive Bumpers with a distinctive mushroom-shaped cap that deflects the ball on contact without solenoid power. The rounded cap sits atop a post and ring assembly, redirecting the ball through the rebound energy of the rubber ring alone. Mushroom bumpers were a staple of pre-Flippers and early flipper-era playfields from the 1930s through the 1950s, appearing on over 100 IPDB-cataloged machines. Their squat, rounded profile gave them a visual identity distinct from the taller dead bumpers and later powered Pop Bumpers that eventually dominated playfield layouts.
