Gottlieb System 1
Gottlieb’s first solid-state pinball system, introduced in 1977, based on the Rockwell PPS-4, a 4-bit microprocessor. It debuted with Cleopatra (1977) and was used on titles like Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1978) and Sinbad (1978). The unusual choice of a 4-bit CPU made these boards distinctive among competitors who favored 8-bit Motorola processors.
