    ipdb.notes
The games in this listing have the two-word name "World's Series" at top of playfield. The upper playfield shows an arrangement of pins (not chrome rails). The middle playfield shows patent numbers. According to the Encyclopedia of Pinball, Volumes 1 and 2, this game first appeared at the February 1934 Coin Machine Expo in Chicago as Rock-ola's 1934 'World's Series Champion Model'. Its upper playfield had chrome rails instead of pins. When actual production began in May, the upper playfield was modified, replacing the chrome rails with pins, as a way to reduce fabrication time and materials costs, and was issued as this Second Model. This time the middle playfield displayed the original playfield Design Patent Number DE90,927 and the ball shooter Patent Number 1,842,863 that did not appear on the earlier model. According to the book Pinball 1, final production games also showed Patent Number 1,975,374 on the playfield. We have seen one game that appeared to be a "transitional" game, having the original four-word name but having the playfield of the Second Model with its pins and patent numbers. Design Patent DE90,927 applied for August-5-1933, issued October-24-1933. Ball Shooter Patent Number 1,842,863. Mechanical Patent No. 1,975,374 filed April-14-1934, granted October-2-1934.
