The games in this listing have the four-word name "World's Series Champion Model" at top of playfield. The upper playfield shows a spread of six chrome rails to define five lanes marked "Hit", "Strike", "Ball", or "Out". The middle playfield does not show patent numbers. According to the Encyclopedia of Pinball, Volumes 1 and 2, 'World's Series' appeared at the February 1934 Coin Machine Expo in Chicago while test games arrived to distributors in March and April. When actual production began in May, the upper playfield was modified, replacing the chrome rails with pins, as a way to reduce fabrication time and materials costs, and was issued as Rock-ola's 1934 'World's Series (Second Model)'. We have seen one game that appeared to be a "transitional" game, having the four-word name but having the playfield of the Second Model with pins and patent numbers. Design Patent DE90,927 [GAME DEVICE] applied for August-5-1933, issued October-24-1933 to David C. Rockola.
