- IPDB This limited run Model 444 'Spacelab' is not to be confused with the Model 443 'Spacelab' factory-converted game that followed it. Model 444 Spacelab can be distinguished from the Model 443 Spacelab by these characteristics: Backbox insert has no replay unit installed and no large hole in the insert to accommodate a replay unit. Pictured in this listing is an original Williams Engineering Drawing dated 11-8-73 (Nov-8-1973) for this limited run and shows the backbox insert layout has no opening for a replay unit. The Spacelab backglass is silkscreened for maximum of 1,999,990 points. It has five silkscreened stars, numbered 1 to 5. Playfield is printed with the two-word name SPACE LAB above its right flipper and shows score values ten times greater. For instance, the SPACELAB bonus in lower playfield awards from 30,000 to 240,000 points. The backbox has operator option plugs for only Add-A-Ball or Novelty, not Replay. Serial numbers fall in the 17nnnn series, based on the two examples we have encountered thus far. Williams documentation indicates only 30 units of this Model 444 were made. We note a coin door pictured here has 'ITALY' written on its inside. Perhaps this short production run was intended for export to there, where Replay games had been outlawed and, presumably, operating add-a-ball games with replay mechanisms in them would be unwelcome and therefore an unnecessary expense. Production Run Records for Spacelab Model 444: Production Start Date: Mar-28-1974 Production End Date: Apr-5-1974 Production Run Quantity: 30 First ship date: Unknown Last ship date: Unknown We are seeking a manual and schematic for this Model 444, if either exist, as well as score cards or any other manufacturer documentation. used
