- IPDB The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad's (CB&Q) revolutionary (1934) Pioneer Zephyr was one of the first stainless steel "streamliner" passenger trains, and was pulled by one of the first diesel-electric locomotives; on May 26, 1934 it set a speed record for travel time between Denver, Colorado, and Chicago, Illinois, covering the distance at an average speed of 77 mph and reaching top speeds just short of the then-US land speed record of 115 mph. The historic dash inspired two films and the train's nickname, "Silver Streak". The 1934 movie Silver Streak featured the Pioneer Zephyr, but it was renamed and re-lettered Silver Streak for the movie. The original Pioneer Zephyr is currently on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. used
