This is the Extended Play version of Gottlieb's 1957 'Silver'. The backglass carries Gottlieb's famous phrase: Amusement Pinballs, as American as Baseball and Hot Dogs! This game was an experimental or test game, modified by Gottlieb. It was assigned a different Model Number than the regular Silver production run, and its cabinet serial number of C62441S indicates it is a Sample game falling within the numerical range of the regular games. The coin door has one coin slot. It appears that no Replay Unit was ever installed in the backbox as only the unmolested starter holes for the screws that would mount it are visible. Replay Units are seen in the similar Gottlieb prototypes where the replay wheel had been modified to display numbers in units of 5, representing added balls, although on the front of this backglass the small window that would show these numbers to the player is labeled "Balls". One stepper unit in the backbox is tagged #139 SPECIAL LITE-BOX. There is an extra stepper unit (the Delay Unit) mounted in the lower cabinet, separate from the motor board components, that makes the Extended Play process possible by acting as a ball count unit and triggering reset. Its cable plug is tagged #139 SPECIAL DELAY. The schematic diagram included with the game shows the name SILVER above the words BALLS GAME (EXTENDED PLAY). Below that appears the model number of 139B with the original date of 9-23-57 and a revised date of 10-21-57. The cabinet had been repainted blue but, as shown in this listing, the owner had removed some of the blue paint on the left side of the backbox, revealing the original red artwork of the regular production run. The backglass had its replay window covered over. The knocker had been removed, leaving evidence on the wood that it burned up at some point, and the Jones plug is present for it.
