ipdb.notes
IPDB This was the last game made by Gottlieb for export to Italy. The replay version of this game is Gottlieb's 1978 'Blue Note'. This game was also made for USA distribution even though, unusually, the backglass for the USA version used the Italian method of illuminating five unlabeled art elements as a way to count extra balls instead of the traditional method on USA add-a-ball games of displaying numbers 1 to 9 along the bottom of the glass. Designer John Osborne explained in a video, at timepoint 04:00, that perhaps Gottlieb wanted to avoid the costs of making two different backglasses. He also explained the USA version had only one coin chute on the coin door. We contacted Federico Croci in Italy who confirmed that he has never seen a Gottlieb game in Italy with just one coin chute, Italian game or not. Federico points out that, unlike the USA game pictured in the video, the Italian version would not have the word "Flipper" on the cardholder nor would the words "Credit When Lit" appear on the cardholder around the red credit light on the left side. Pictured is this listing is a Sample game with serial number 01012 S. The only cosmetic difference that we noticed when compared to the production game is that the guitar player in the upper left playfield has a two-tone face instead of a single color and his right sleeve is white instead of blue. used
