- IPDB A numbered list of games compiled by Chicago Coin for games issued 1934-1949 has two entries for Miami with issue dates only a few days apart and having separate production run quantities. This manufacturer's list does not designate which entry is the Replay version and which is the Novelty version, that being the most likely reason for having two entries. This database listing of Miami and its issue date and production run quantity comes from their list number 60 and is designated here by us (and by earlier historians) as Model 60 and as the Novelty version. Thus, their list number 59 'Miami' is designated by us and earlier historians as the 'Miami' Model 59 Replay version. However, all playfield pictures we receive of this game are always missing their playfield Instruction Cards to show us if high scores are awarded with replays or only points, ideally the easiest way to determine if a given game is replay or novelty, to allow us to confidently place the correct pictures in the correct listing. The only two pictures we have of inside the backbox each show an insert having two arced rows of holes where light bulb sockets were not wired by the factory, in an area corresponding to silkscreened numbers on the backglass unused for lack of illumination. These inserts appear to be the Novelty version whereas we would expect the Replay version to have these holes wired with bulbs and likely also having a stepping unit higher up on the insert to track and light the replays awarded. However, we also saw in our pictures that two different backglasses exist, identical except one has two airplanes and a white bird in the sky while the other glass has no airplanes and no bird. Unfortunately, this difference does not serve to conveniently identify Replay from Novelty as we have a game with each type of glass but both games have the aforementioned unwired Novelty insert. We recognize that backglasses are portable between games. To add to the mystery, all playfields for which we have received pictures of their undersides each show a jack field for operator selection of what is labeled there as "Payout Scores" as if this is the Replay version playfield. This is true for games having the Novelty version backbox insert. The manufacturer's two list entries 59 and 60, one dated three days before the other, and each running for several hundred games, indicates concurrent production runs, so perhaps it was easy or necessary for the production line(s) to use the same "Replay" playfield even for "Novelty" games. It would be helpful to find a confirmed Replay version of this game to thoroughly photo-document its mechanisms and wiring. We are seeking high-resolution images of inside the backbox, under the playfield, and inside the lower cabinet of any Miami game. Please include a picture of the backglass for identification. If the backglass does not have the airplanes and bird, we ask for a picture of the full reverse side, if possible. The playfield picture should include the lower apron even if an Instruction Card is not present. Until we can confidently distinguish the Replay and Novelty versions from each other, we divided our images between our two listings based on the superficial backglass art differences, as the backglass is the most common image provided to us of all the differences we have explained. This Model 60 listing shows the games having backglasses with the two airplanes and white bird in the sky while the other listing shows games with backglasses without them. used
