This is the same game as Stern's 1979 'Magic' but manufactured in Australia under license. The backglass may or may not indicate this. The cabinet and backbox are not stamped with a serial number as found on the Stern version. Instead, the back of the cabinet has a manufacturer plate from LAI with serial number. Artist Bob Timm told us he did both the backglass and playfield for this game while he was at Ad Posters. He said cabinet art was always done at the cabinet maker and, as far as he knew, none of the game artists had anything to do with it. In the case of this LAI licensed game, the cabinet would have been made locally in Australia. Pictured in this listing are examples of two different cabinets. One has the color orange and the other has a bold red. We don't know the reason for this color difference. Manufacturer data for Magic: Production Start Date: 8/6/79 Production End Date: 9/25/79 Quantity produced - full games: 2202 (see Stern's 1979 'Magic') Quantity produced - knock-down games: 264 Total Quantity Produced: 2466
