ipdb.notes
IPDB This is the Italian add-a-ball model of the USA version Gottlieb's 1966 'Ice Show'. Its playfield is identical to the USA version. The replay version is Gottlieb's 1965 'Ice-Revue'. It was not uncommon for local operators to modify games for 5-digit scoring. Most often, the new digit was a fake "0" but in some cases they added a real counter. Federico Croci, a collector in Italy, informs us that, of all the Gottlieb game models that were made for Italy (Ice Show being just one of them), several models did not have the "IT" suffix appearing after the model number in the upper left corner on their factory-installed playfields. Yet, factory NOS playfields which arrived months later would have that suffix. For instance, the playfield in his Italian Ice Show game showed ICE-SHOW 234 while subsequent NOS playfields would indicate ICE-SHOW 234 IT. We previously showed a production run quantity of 400 units for this Italian version. However, the available Gottlieb documentation only lists one version of 'Ice Show' when it provides this quantity and places with it a date of January 1966, so likely it is for only the USA version. used
ipdb.notable_features
IPDB Flippers (2), Pop bumpers (5), Slingshots (2), Standup targets (6), Kick-out holes (2), Triple outlanes. Backglass has a 'Last Ball in Play' light. Unlike the USA add-a-ball version, the six ice skaters in the background on the backglass are not related to the playfield kick-out hole values therefore they do not rotate illumination in response to the lit hole values. Instead, five of these six skaters individually illuminate on the backglass to collectively show up to five extra balls. These five skaters are not wired from the factory with sockets to hold flashing bulbs although the holes in the insert for them are present. The sixth skater is wired from the factory only to flash a bulb at Game Over; two nearby holes in the insert for this skater are not wired. After all five pop bumpers are lit by the player for their first completion, an operator option called the "Bumper Spotting Adjustment" allows one, two, or three pop bumpers, or none, to remain lit for their next completion. The backbox has a "Spot Lite Unit" to count the extra balls. This unit is known in subsequent Gottlieb games as the "Lightbox Advance Unit". Maximum displayed point score is 9,999 points. Sound: 3 bells, knocker Tilt Penalty: game over, or ball in play plus 1 ball (operator option) used
