ipdb.notes
IPDB There are two examples of this game pictured here. The first one has the coin door located on the left front of the cabinet. The second one has the coin door located in the center. The owner of this second game states no serial number was found anywhere on the game, inside or out. The California Express was a train route that started in the late 1880's from Chicago to San Diego, passing through Los Angeles where this manufacturer was located. The decals on each side of the cabinet of the second game show a streamlined locomotive design that did not exist in the 1880's. Streamlining began in the 1930's and, while we do not know what the California Express train looked like at the time this game was made, we have no other examples of this cabinet to try to assess if these visually bright (and seemingly incongruous) decals are originally from the manufacturer or were added later. used
