ipdb.notes
IPDB The score card indicates free games are awarded but, as the game does not track free games, these are location cash payouts, forfeited if the game shows it has been tilted. While a tilt cup is present, the backglass lamp ensures a tilt has been recorded and can be seen by the merchant from behind the counter. Both the rifle flash lamp and the tilt lamp are screw-type bulbs and sockets. The eleven other lamps in the backglass are mounted into a single thin strip of metal with a row of holes in it, acting as an electrical common, no individual sockets are used. The electrical foot contact of each bulb individually makes contact with one of several strips of copper mounted onto a thin, flat piece of wood and these copper strips extend downward, exposed as curved "fingers", to make contact with corresponding playfield wire terminations. We note the flat piece of wood in one backbox shown here contains artwork revealing that it is a portion of a playfield for Rock-ola's 1934 'Pleasure-Island'. This is the first game with "synthesized" sound, described in US Patent No. 2,103,870 applied for August 23, 1935 and patented December 28, 1937 (David C. Rockola, assigned to Rock-Old Mfg. Corp.). It was seen as a gimmick and was soon dropped from Rock-Ola's games. used

IPDB 1 cent play, also 8, 9, or 10 balls for 5 cents. Trap holes (22), Free Play holes (2), Ball kicker (1), Time clock. The ball kicker replaces the outhole. Backglass light animation and synthesized sound. Hole values greater than 500 points light corresponding values on backglass. A ball landing in the "trigger hole" causes backglass rifle flash to illuminate and a simulated rifle shot is also heard (caused by a dashpot and magnet arrangement in the lower cabinet acting as a knocker). Landing a ball in both Twin Return holes returns both balls to player for replay. The Lost Trail holes have no special significance as trap holes. Backglass has a tilt light. Cabinet measures 39 1/2 inches long, 19 1/2 inches wide, and 9 1/2 inches high. Powered by five dry cell batteries. Sound: knocker used
