- IPDB This game was the continued production of Gee Bee Manufacturing Company's 1934 'American Beauty'. The Encyclopedia of Pinball page 22 refers to this game as "improved" but without explanation. Elsewhere on page 22, Eddie Ginsburg is quoted as saying their game had problems, only one of which was identified by him as the ball hitting the counter and bending (an unspecified piece of) metal. Still, we dont know what the improvements actually were. The Billboard article shown in this listing may help explain any of this. According to The Encyclopedia of Pinball pp 22-23, on March 6, 1934 the Gee-Bee Manufacturing Company changed their name to G.B. Daval Company as an intermediate step in transitioning manufacturing and rights to the Daval Manufacturing Company. On August 15, 1934, G.B. Daval Company closed out and Daval Manufacturing Company assumed the entire operation. This game continued production as Daval Mfg. Co.'s 1934 'American Beauty'. The manufacturer advertised this 36 inch by 16 1/2 inch game with text describing a Ball-O-Meter in the lower playfield and what they called a catapult (a ball kicker into a Mystery Score hole) in the upper playfield. However, some of these ads incongruously picture a playfield with no evident catapult and having what could be described as three decorative aluminum vases surrounding the American Beauty rose in the lower playfield, and no Ball-O-Meter. We cannot find any manufacturer reference to the "three vases" playfields. used
