Whirlpools
A funnel-shaped playfield device where the ball enters at the top rim and spirals downward to the bottom, tracing tighter circles as it descends — much like water draining from a basin. The whirlpool creates one of pinball’s most visually dramatic moments: the ball orbits the funnel’s interior, slowing as gravity pulls it inward, before dropping through the center to be ejected back into play or routed to another feature. The mechanism adds a pause in the action that is entirely governed by physics rather than solenoids, giving the player a brief, mesmerizing interlude before the ball resumes its high-speed journey across the playfield.
