Power Targets
Chicago Coin’s brand name for their version of Vari-Targets, the variable-score mechanism that translates the force of a ball strike into progressively higher point values. Like Gottlieb’s original Vari-Target and Williams’ Linear Targets, the power target uses a sliding assembly that registers deeper switch positions for harder hits, rewarding players who can control shot strength. Chicago Coin marketed the feature under the “Power Target” name during the 1970s to differentiate its machines in a competitive market, though the core principle — converting physical impact into a variable reward — remained consistent across all three manufacturers’ implementations.
